| Stop Smoking By Hypnosis |
Question:
would like to hear from people who have used hypnosis to stop smoking, or
know someone who has. Did it work? How difficult was it compared to other
stop smoking programs?
Answer:
Hypnosis as a method of quitting certainly has its place in this group.
That is, one on one hypnosis, in person. Group hypnosis has been shown to
be pretty ineffective. I'm sure that self-hypnosis probably falls into that
category, too.
I actually used self hypnosis audio tapes to help me quit
smoking and it worked. You still have to be willing to want to quit -
hypnosis won't force you to do anything you don't actually want to do
deep down.
I attended a local group hypnosis session with about 30 people in
attendance. I quit for 3 and 1/2 years and a friend (who attended the very
same session) started up again the next day. About one month later I had to
smoke a cigarette in a play I was doing and I was able to take the one drag
at work and never want one after that... for me this was a miracle cure.
After the live session we were given a tape to use for thirty days... I did,
and like I said before, I didn't smoke for over three years.
Since I relapsed I went back to the same hypnotist and two others... no
success.
I am now on my fourth day on the patch (Nicoderm CQ) and things are fine.
Hypnosis was incredible and, at time in my life, easy. Now I can't imagine
doing it again, should I ever need to.
People say nothing (patches, drugs, hypnosis, acupuncture, whatever) will
work until you are ready for it to work. And you know what? They are dead
right.
