Laser Surgery To Quit Smoking
Question:
I am looking for information on a laser lung surgery called bullectomy.

Answer:

If ever there was a case to quit smoking the thought of laser lung surgery should make for a good argument. Bllectomy is not for everyone. In emphysema some folks have large cavities in the lungs caused by destruction of tissue. Now these cavities (bullae) are generally poorly perfused and hence do not contribute to effective oxygenation of blood. In some instances removal of these areas or even just cutting off the air flow to these bullae can result in improvement in some patients. There are a variety of means to accomplish this and laser is but one of them. Since emphysema in 90% of the cases is cased by smoking people should consider laser treatment (or anything) to quit smoking before they get to the point where they need laser surgery on their lungs.
