Emphysema And Cough
Question:
My 11 year old daughter has just been diagnosed with coughing Asthma. I myself have COPD and my father had Emphysema. Has anyone else seen this happen?

Answer:
There is a type of hereditary emphysema you may want to check into. It's extremely important that asthmatics with this condition not smoke. Most cases of emphysema are caused by smoking or other environmental factors. However, in a small number of cases of emphysema, there is a hereditary basis for the disease. Emphysema is characterized by progressive shortness of breath (dyspnea) and cough. This disease can cause air to become trapped in the lung, which is called hyperinflation.
